Van Halen to tour in 2012

Van Halen are hitting the road in 2012.

The band has issued a tour announcement preview video, letting fans know the first tickets will go on sale January 10.

While no other details were made available at this time, it is expected that a list of tour dates will be revealed prior to the January 10 on sale date.

VH posted a few versions of the preview, featuring footage filmed last month at The Roxy in Hollywood; the material is rumored to be from a forthcoming video for a brand new song.

No details, yet, on a single or album release date, but VH did release an image of a freight train with the date 2.7.12 on it (see above). First single? Album?

VH has signed with Interscope Records for the project, leaving their home at Warner Brothers Records after more than 30 years.

Produced by Ross Hogarth, the new record will be the band’s first withDavid Lee Roth since 1984 (the year and album).

Richie Sambora to come out with third solo album

Richie Sambora is starting work on his third solo album at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood. According to Broadcast Newsroom, Sambora has tapped Luke Ebbin, who manned the boards for Bon Jovi albums Crush and Bounce, for the project.

“Richie and I have worked on and off together for years,” Ebbin told Broadcast Newsroom. “Richie came off the Bon Jovi tour energized and we got together to write a couple of songs. The results were very good, so we kept writing more and decided to go in and record them.

“The recordings came out great, so Richie decided why not make this a solo record? There are eight songs in the can now, including a co-write with Bernie Taupin...”

Sambora’s first solo release was 1991’s blues-based Stranger in This Town, and he followed up that with 1998’s Undiscovered Soul. Ebbin says the guys have started round two of sessions and hope to have the full album done by early spring.

Pearl Jam Go For Ten With New Album In 2012

Among the more noteworthy releases coming our way in 2012 is the tenth studio album from Seattle rock giants Pearl Jam. After spending much of the year reflecting on their 20-year run, the rock vets aim to finish their next record by spring 2012.

You never know what you’re going to get when Pearl Jam releases a new record, which is one of the things we love about the band. Whether it’s an album filled with more experimental tracks like ‘No Code’ or ‘Binaural’ or straight ahead rock like ‘Ten’ or ‘Pearl Jam,’ the band has proven that they are one of the most versatile acts in rock music today.  Being that their next album will make number ten — a number that holds much significance to the band and it’s fans — we’re wondering whether we will get a nostalgic PJ sound or something entirely new.

Their last album ‘Backspacer’ was a drastic departure from it’s predecessor, with less hard driving rock and more focus on songwriting and melody — the result was a much older sounding Pearl Jam than we had heard before. With the release of Eddie Vedder’s solo album ‘Ukulele Songs’ this year, our guess is that Ed is ready to put the ballads aside and bring us an all out ass-kicker next year.

Pearl Jam’s manager has said that they are anxious to get the new songs out to people and bassist Jeff Ament said they were about halfway done months ago — so if you do the math the album is about done, right? Wrong. Drummer Matt Cameron is now splitting time between PJ and Soundgarden and the band has been traveling to Los Angeles to record — so the process is taking a little longer this time through.

“In this moment we are in the process of composing an album, we have seven songs … and we’ll work on the rest of them next year in March. This, no doubt, will appease many Pearl Jam enthusiasts out there.”

Pearl Jam gave fans a sneek peak at the new material when they debuted a new song recorded during the tenth album sessions called ‘OlĂ©’ on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, they made it available for free download shortly after which probably means it won’t make the cut. As for the name of the band’s tenth record, we’re expecting something symbolic of the number ‘Ten’ since it was the name of their landmark debut album — maybe ‘Ten 2′ or ‘X’ (we’re rooting for ‘Mookie Blaylock’). With the sessions picking up in March you can most likely expect a late 2012 release.

Rush Have Finished New Album Recording

Rush’s sound engineer Rich Chycki has suggested on Twitter that the legendary Canadian trio has “wrapped up” the recording of forthcoming album Clockwork Angels.
Chycki’s Tweet said: “2 months at Revolution Studio in Toronto. Thanks for the hospitality guys! #wrapped”

Clockwork Angels has been a long project for Rush. In August 2010, guitarist Alex Lifeson remarked that an additional three songs were almost complete and that the album was turning out to be very musically diverse. In particular, Lifeson refers to the nearly finished title track “Clockwork Angels” as an “epic song” and a “multi-parted piece.”
Geddy Lee told Billboard in December 2011 the trio were “making sure the guitar, bass and drum sounds are big and loud and clear, and any time we are going to add an overdub, to make sure that it definitely is adding and not subtracting.”

Rush lyricist/drummer Neil Peart said in May 2011, “I intend it to be my highest achievement lyrically and drumming wise.”
Rush have premiered two songs online already to buy, “Caravan” and “BU2B.”

Paul McCartney To Release New Album In 2012

Paul McCartney has revealed that he will release a new album in 2012.

The Beatles legend has announced that the as-yet-untitled LP will be released on February 6 next year and will feature guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder.

Although a track listing for the album is yet to be revealed, McCartney said it would feature covers of songs he was inspired by during his childhood as well as two new compositions.

McCartney said that the tracks chosen for the LP were "the songs which inspired the songs" he would later go on to write and also described them as "the songs me and John [Lennon] based quite a few of our things on."

Speaking about songs chosen, he said: "When I kind of got into songwriting, I realised how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them.

"I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical," he added. "And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those song'."

He also gave an insight into the studio sessions, revealing: "It was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we'd work with The Beatles.

"We'd bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we'd say 'Okay, let's do a take now' and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we'd learnt the song. So that's what we did, we did the take live in the studio."

McCartney went on to add: "It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise."

Paul McCartney released his last solo studio album, Memory Almost Full, in 2007.

Pantera, Anthrax, Disturbed, Slipknot To Perform For DimeBash

Next week's DimeBash 2011 is set to feature members of Pantera, Anthrax, Disturbed, Slipknot, System of a Down, Machine Head and many more paying tribute to "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and raising money for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up & Shout Cancer Fund.
"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's influence on the music community can never be fully estimated, but if the collection of artists and players at this year's DimeBash 2011 is any indication, his legacy is as far-reaching and deeper than ever before.
On December 14th, the world of hard rock and metal come together in a communion of thunderous songs and stories to tip its collective glass to one of the true masters of not only guitar, but music as a whole. "Today marks the 7th year, which still doesn't seem like a reality to me", states Rita Haney, longtime girlfriend of Dime and the person who knew him best. "Sometimes I think, "Boy this sure is a long ass tour", but then I focus back in and realize what I'm working on at this moment and I just have to smile and be thankful for all the amazing people that surround me - thanks to him. I hope everyone enjoys this event as much as we like bringing it to them. It's nothing more, nothing less, than "About a damn good time!" - one of my favorite Dime pastimes and phrases. There are no words to express my thanks to all the artists who make this event special and give "us fans" a night to remember two truly amazing people and the music they created! I am forever at your beckon call, so c'mon out and experience the evening with us. It's going to be quite magical!!!"

The Key Club Hollywood plays host to all-star jams featuring the vocal talents of heavy hitters like Jerry Cantrell, Dave Draiman, Duff McKagan, Serj Tankian, Mike Muir and Sebastian Bach; the guitar fury from players like John 5, Scott Ian, Phil Demmel, Warren DeMartini, Ben Harper, Chris Howorth; and the ground-shaking rhythms of Doug Pinnick, James Lomenzo, Ginger Fish, Brian Tichy and Joey Jordison, with many more superstars lending their vocal and playing skills to the metal proceedings - with the whole shebang being emceed by That Metal Show's Eddie Trunk and his co-horts, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson. In addition, kicking off the event will be Kill Devil Hill, featuring the legendary Vinnie Appice and Rex Brown. Also on deck are Dio Disciples featuring the great Rudy Sarzo and vocalist Tim Ripper Owens with a special appearance by Glenn Hughes.

It will truly be a special evening of hard rock featuring luminaries from some of the biggest bands in the world: Pantera, Anthrax, Disturbed, Slipknot, System of a Down, Machine Head and many more, all in the name of all things Dimebag - with 100% of proceeds from the event benefitting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up & Shout Cancer Fund.

Guns n' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Faces enter Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The votes are in and next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class will include Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, the Small Faces/Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro. Freddie King will enter the Hall of Fame as an Early Influence, while the late producer and TV host Don Kirshner will receive the Ahmet Ertegun (nonperformer) Award and producers Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns will receive the Award for Musical Excellence. The ceremony will be held April 14th at Cleveland's Public Hall. It will be broadcast on HBO in early May.

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis got the news while his band was touring Europe."I called my dad and he cried," he tells Rolling Stone. "The most emotional part for me was thinking about [late Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist] Hillel Slovak . . . It's really kind of his induction that I'm the most excited about. He's a beautiful person that picked up a guitar in the 1970s and didn't make it out of the 1980s, and he is getting honored for his beauty . . . It really fills my heart with the reality of how much we love doing what we do, and how much Flea and I love each other. We have stuck together through thick and thin and we want to keep on trucking and continuing to do what it is we do."

Guns N' Roses are the only group to be inducted on their first year of eligibility. The original line-up hasn't performed together since drummer Steven Adler left the band in 1990. During an interview last month with VH1 Classic's That Metal Show, Axl Rose didn't completely rule out a reunion. "I don't know what it means in terms of me with the old band and the old lineup," he said. "If we were to be invited, I don't know what they would ask of me. It's up in the air."

Adler remains skeptical that Axl will be willing to perform with the original lineup. "You figure that time heals all wounds," he tells Rolling Stone. "But some people just REALLY hold a crazy grudge. I just had lunch with Slash two days ago. He loves Axl. He holds no grudges towards him. Twenty years of great music wasn't created because of some stupid grudge . . . Can't we just be fucking people who played music and accomplished a huge goal in their life and just play a couple songs? It's only rock & roll, my god! It's not rocket science."

For Faces/Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, the news was somewhat bittersweet. "I was not happy that the Small Faces and the Faces were lumped together," he tells Rolling Stone. "I've given it a lot of thought and I figure, well . . . I'll take it." The Faces have been touring with former Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall, but original singer Rod Stewart recently said that he'd like to reunite with the group at the ceremony. "I'll be happy if he does that," says McLagan. "It certainly would be wonderful."

Rod Stewart tells Rolling Stone that he has every intention of performing with the Faces at the event. "I'd love it," he says. "If they're all available, I'll definitely make myself available . . . I'm absolutely over the moon about this." He's none too pleased that McLagan has voiced his unhappiness that the two bands are getting inducted together. "I think that was a little out of order," he says. "I think Mac should think himself lucky that he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'll knock him into shape when I see him, McLagan."

Scottish folk icon Donovan was overjoyed when he learned of his induction. "I'm pleased as punch," he tells Rolling Stone. "Honors and awards are very interesting, and I truly accept them. I have very high regard for what they mean. What they mean is that they're pointing to the work. For me, the work was always to show others, to lead others, to experiment, to break all the rules. I've had lots of recognition . . . but this one is singular."

The Beastie Boys are only the third hip-hop act to get inducted into the Hall of Fame. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five got inducted in 2007. Two years later, Run-D.M.C. got the nod as well. The Beastie Boys released their eighth studio LP Hot Sauce Committee Part Two this past April, but have been lying low while Adam Yauch receives treatment for cancer.

"We're in the rock and roll hall of fame?" the Beasties said in a written statement. "That's f----n' crazy and awesome! While we are very proud of the music we make, we have to acknowledge the inspiration from our families, friends and musicians like The Slits, Bad Brains, X-Ray Spex, The Treacherous Three and too many others to possibly name. And most of all, we give thanks to New York City and the world of musical influence it provided for us."

Laura Nyro was an incredibly gifted and under-appreciated songwriter whose work has been covered by everyone from Peter, Paul and Mary and Three Dog Night to the Fifth Dimension. Her late-1960s LPs Eli and the Thirteenth Confession and New York Tendaberry weren't huge sellers, but were tremendously acclaimed and they inspired an entire generation of songwriters. "I idolized her," Elton John said in 2008. "The soul, the passion, just the out and out audacity of the way her rhythmic and medley changes came was like nothing I've heard before." Nyro died from ovarian cancer in 1997.

This is the third time that the ceremony will be held in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. As in 2009, the ceremony will be open to the public.

Happy Birthday Jim Morrison

James Douglas "Jim" Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) was an American musician, singer, and poet, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band The Doors. Following The Doors' explosive rise to fame in 1967, Morrison developed a severe alcohol and drug dependency which culminated in his untimely death in Paris in 1971 at age 27, due to a suspected heroin overdose. However, the events surrounding his death continue to be the subject of controversy, as no autopsy was performed on his body after death, and the exact cause of his death is disputed by many to this day.
Morrison was well-known for often improvising spoken word poetry passages while the band played live. Due to his wild personality and performances, he is regarded by some people as one of the most iconic, charismatic and pioneering frontmen in rock music history. Morrison was ranked number 47 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", and number 22 on Classic Rock Magazine's "50 Greatest Singers In Rock".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GODFATHER OF HEAVY METAL

John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English vocalist, whose musical career has spanned over 40 years. Osbourne rose to prominence as lead singer of the pioneering English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, whose radically different, intentionally dark, harder sound helped spawn the heavy metal genre.
In his subsequent solo career Osbourne achieved a multi-platinum status in addition to the one he had earned with Black Sabbath. These things are what led Osbourne to become known as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal".It was during his Sabbath days that, due to their dark style of music, Osbourne became known as the "Prince of Darkness".Osbourne has over 15 tattoos, the most famous of which are the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand. This was his first tattoo, created by himself as a teenager with a sewing needle and pencil lead.In the early 2000s, Osbourne's career expanded to a new medium when he became a star in his own reality show, The Osbournes, alongside wife/manager Sharon and two of their three children, Kelly and Jack. A documentary about his life and career, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, premiered in April 2011 at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be released on DVD in November 2011. As of December 2010, Osbourne has sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as a solo artist and a member of Black Sabbath.
