The band has issued a tour announcement preview video, letting fans know the first tickets will go on sale January 10.
While no other details were made available at this time, it is expected that a list of tour dates will be revealed prior to the January 10 on sale date.
VH posted a few versions of the preview, featuring footage filmed last month at The Roxy in Hollywood; the material is rumored to be from a forthcoming video for a brand new song.
No details, yet, on a single or album release date, but VH did release an image of a freight train with the date 2.7.12 on it (see above). First single? Album?
VH has signed with Interscope Records for the project, leaving their home at Warner Brothers Records after more than 30 years.
Produced by Ross Hogarth, the new record will be the band’s first withDavid Lee Roth since 1984 (the year and album).
Richie Sambora is starting work on his third solo album at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood. According to Broadcast Newsroom, Sambora has tapped Luke Ebbin, who manned the boards for Bon Jovi albums Crush and Bounce, for the project.
“Richie and I have worked on and off together for years,” Ebbin told Broadcast Newsroom. “Richie came off the Bon Jovi tour energized and we got together to write a couple of songs. The results were very good, so we kept writing more and decided to go in and record them.
“The recordings came out great, so Richie decided why not make this a solo record? There are eight songs in the can now, including a co-write with Bernie Taupin...”
Sambora’s first solo release was 1991’s blues-based Stranger in This Town, and he followed up that with 1998’s Undiscovered Soul. Ebbin says the guys have started round two of sessions and hope to have the full album done by early spring.
Among the more noteworthy releases coming our way in 2012 is the tenth studio album from Seattle rock giants Pearl Jam. After spending much of the year reflecting on their 20-year run, the rock vets aim to finish their next record by spring 2012.
You never know what you’re going to get when Pearl Jam releases a new record, which is one of the things we love about the band. Whether it’s an album filled with more experimental tracks like ‘No Code’ or ‘Binaural’ or straight ahead rock like ‘Ten’ or ‘Pearl Jam,’ the band has proven that they are one of the most versatile acts in rock music today. Being that their next album will make number ten — a number that holds much significance to the band and it’s fans — we’re wondering whether we will get a nostalgic PJ sound or something entirely new.
Their last album ‘Backspacer’ was a drastic departure from it’s predecessor, with less hard driving rock and more focus on songwriting and melody — the result was a much older sounding Pearl Jam than we had heard before. With the release of Eddie Vedder’s solo album ‘Ukulele Songs’ this year, our guess is that Ed is ready to put the ballads aside and bring us an all out ass-kicker next year.
Pearl Jam’s manager has said that they are anxious to get the new songs out to people and bassist Jeff Ament said they were about halfway done months ago — so if you do the math the album is about done, right? Wrong. Drummer Matt Cameron is now splitting time between PJ and Soundgarden and the band has been traveling to Los Angeles to record — so the process is taking a little longer this time through.
“In this moment we are in the process of composing an album, we have seven songs … and we’ll work on the rest of them next year in March. This, no doubt, will appease many Pearl Jam enthusiasts out there.”
Rush’s sound engineer Rich Chycki has suggested on Twitter that the legendary Canadian trio has “wrapped up” the recording of forthcoming album Clockwork Angels.
Chycki’s Tweet said: “2 months at Revolution Studio in Toronto. Thanks for the hospitality guys! #wrapped”
Clockwork Angels has been a long project for Rush. In August 2010, guitarist Alex Lifeson remarked that an additional three songs were almost complete and that the album was turning out to be very musically diverse. In particular, Lifeson refers to the nearly finished title track “Clockwork Angels” as an “epic song” and a “multi-parted piece.”
Geddy Lee told Billboard in December 2011 the trio were “making sure the guitar, bass and drum sounds are big and loud and clear, and any time we are going to add an overdub, to make sure that it definitely is adding and not subtracting.”
Rush lyricist/drummer Neil Peart said in May 2011, “I intend it to be my highest achievement lyrically and drumming wise.”
Rush have premiered two songs online already to buy, “Caravan” and “BU2B.”
The Allman Brothers Band are among the artists to be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Grammys in February.
On Wednesday, The Recording Academy announced its 2012 Special Merit Awards recipients. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are Allman Brothers Band, Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, the Memphis Horns, Diana Ross, and Gil Scott-Heron; this year's Trustees Award honorees are Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs andRudy Van Gelder; and Celemony and Roger Nichols are this year'sTechnical Grammy Award honorees.
As pioneers of Southern rock, the Allman Brothers Band created a unique sound, blending elements of blues, country, jazz and rock. Known for their outstanding improvisational and jam-style shows, the band's breakthrough album, 1971's “At Fillmore East,” is a definitive live concert recording. The band has achieved artistic and commercial success with hits such as"Whipping Post," "Ramblin' Man" and "Jessica,"the latter having earned them a 1995 Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In 1995 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A special invitation-only ceremony will be held during Grammy Week on February 11, 2012, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the 54th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, which will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 12, and broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
"This year's honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry."
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors lifelong artistic contributions to the recording medium while the Trustees Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the industry in a nonperforming capacity. Both awards are determined by vote of The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees. Technical Grammy Award recipients are determined by vote of The Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committees as well as The Academy's Trustees. The award is presented to individuals and companies who have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.
Paul McCartney has revealed that he will release a new album in 2012.
The Beatles legend has announced that the as-yet-untitled LP will be released on February 6 next year and will feature guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder.
Although a track listing for the album is yet to be revealed, McCartney said it would feature covers of songs he was inspired by during his childhood as well as two new compositions.
McCartney said that the tracks chosen for the LP were "the songs which inspired the songs" he would later go on to write and also described them as "the songs me and John [Lennon] based quite a few of our things on."
Speaking about songs chosen, he said: "When I kind of got into songwriting, I realised how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them.
"I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical," he added. "And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those song'."
He also gave an insight into the studio sessions, revealing: "It was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we'd work with The Beatles.
"We'd bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we'd say 'Okay, let's do a take now' and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we'd learnt the song. So that's what we did, we did the take live in the studio."
McCartney went on to add: "It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise."
Paul McCartney released his last solo studio album, Memory Almost Full, in 2007.
Next week's DimeBash 2011 is set to feature members
of Pantera, Anthrax, Disturbed, Slipknot, System of a Down, Machine Head and
many more paying tribute to "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and raising money for the
Ronnie James Dio Stand Up & Shout Cancer Fund.
"Dimebag" Darrell
Abbott's influence on the music community can never be fully estimated, but if
the collection of artists and players at this year's DimeBash 2011 is any
indication, his legacy is as far-reaching and deeper than ever before.
On December 14th, the world of hard rock and metal come together in a
communion of thunderous songs and stories to tip its collective glass to one of
the true masters of not only guitar, but music as a whole. "Today marks the 7th
year, which still doesn't seem like a reality to me", states Rita Haney,
longtime girlfriend of Dime and the person who knew him best. "Sometimes I
think, "Boy this sure is a long ass tour", but then I focus back in and realize
what I'm working on at this moment and I just have to smile and be thankful for
all the amazing people that surround me - thanks to him. I hope everyone enjoys
this event as much as we like bringing it to them. It's nothing more, nothing
less, than "About a damn good time!" - one of my favorite Dime pastimes and
phrases. There are no words to express my thanks to all the artists who make
this event special and give "us fans" a night to remember two truly amazing
people and the music they created! I am forever at your beckon call, so c'mon
out and experience the evening with us. It's going to be quite
magical!!!"

benefitting the cause as well.
The votes are in and next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
class will include Guns N' Roses,
Red
Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys,
the Small
Faces/Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro. Freddie King will enter the Hall of
Fame as an Early Influence, while the late producer and TV host Don Kirshner
will receive the Ahmet Ertegun (nonperformer) Award and producers Cosimo
Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns will receive the Award for Musical Excellence.
The ceremony will be held April 14th at Cleveland's Public Hall. It will be
broadcast on HBO in early May.
Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis got the news
while his band was touring Europe."I called my dad and he cried," he
tells Rolling Stone. "The most emotional part for me was thinking
about [late Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist] Hillel Slovak . . . It's really
kind of his induction that I'm the most excited about. He's a beautiful person
that picked up a guitar in the 1970s and didn't make it out of the 1980s, and he
is getting honored for his beauty . . . It really fills my heart with the
reality of how much we love doing what we do, and how much Flea and I love each
other. We have stuck together through thick and thin and we want to keep on
trucking and continuing to do what it is we do."
Guns N' Roses are the only group to be inducted on their first year of
eligibility. The original line-up hasn't performed together since drummer Steven
Adler left the band in 1990. During an interview last month with VH1 Classic's
That Metal Show, Axl Rose didn't completely rule out a reunion. "I
don't know what it means in terms of me with the old band and the old lineup,"
he said. "If we were to be invited, I don't know what they would ask of me. It's
up in the air."
Adler remains skeptical that Axl will be willing to perform
with the original lineup. "You figure that time heals all wounds," he
tells Rolling Stone. "But some people just REALLY hold a crazy
grudge. I just had lunch with Slash two days ago. He loves Axl. He holds no
grudges towards him. Twenty years of great music wasn't created because of some
stupid grudge . . . Can't we just be fucking people who played music and
accomplished a huge goal in their life and just play a couple songs? It's only
rock & roll, my god! It's not rocket science."
For Faces/Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, the news was
somewhat bittersweet. "I was not happy that the Small Faces and the Faces were
lumped together,"
he tells Rolling Stone. "I've given it a lot of thought and I
figure, well . . . I'll take it." The Faces have been touring with former Simply
Red frontman Mick Hucknall, but original singer Rod Stewart recently said that
he'd like to reunite with the group at the ceremony. "I'll be happy if he does
that," says McLagan. "It certainly would be wonderful."
Rod
Stewart tells Rolling
Stone that he has every intention of performing with the Faces at the
event. "I'd love it," he says. "If they're all available, I'll definitely make
myself available . . . I'm absolutely over the moon about this." He's none too
pleased that McLagan has voiced his unhappiness that the two bands are getting
inducted together. "I think that was a little out of order," he says. "I think
Mac should think himself lucky that he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'll
knock him into shape when I see him, McLagan."
Scottish folk icon Donovan was overjoyed when he learned of
his induction. "I'm pleased as punch," he
tells Rolling Stone. "Honors and awards are very interesting, and I
truly accept them. I have very high regard for what they mean. What they mean is
that they're pointing to the work. For me, the work was always to show others,
to lead others, to experiment, to break all the rules. I've had lots of
recognition . . . but this one is singular."
The Beastie Boys are only the third hip-hop act to get inducted into
the Hall of Fame. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five got inducted in 2007.
Two years later, Run-D.M.C. got the nod as well. The Beastie Boys released their
eighth studio LP Hot Sauce Committee Part Two this past April, but have
been lying low while Adam Yauch receives treatment for cancer.
"We're in the rock and roll hall of fame?" the Beasties said in a written
statement. "That's f----n' crazy and awesome! While we are very proud of the
music we make, we have to acknowledge the inspiration from our families, friends
and musicians like The Slits, Bad Brains, X-Ray Spex, The Treacherous Three and
too many others to possibly name. And most of all, we give thanks to New York
City and the world of musical influence it provided for us."
Laura Nyro was an incredibly gifted and under-appreciated songwriter
whose work has been covered by everyone from Peter, Paul and Mary and Three Dog
Night to the Fifth Dimension. Her late-1960s LPs Eli and the Thirteenth
Confession and New York Tendaberry weren't huge sellers, but were
tremendously acclaimed and they inspired an entire generation of songwriters.
"I idolized her," Elton John said in 2008. "The soul, the passion, just the out
and out audacity of the way her rhythmic and medley changes came was like
nothing I've heard before." Nyro died from ovarian cancer in 1997.
This is the third time that the ceremony will be held in Cleveland, home of
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. As in 2009, the ceremony will be open
to the public.
James Douglas "Jim" Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) was an American musician, singer, and poet, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band The Doors. Following The Doors' explosive rise to fame in 1967, Morrison developed a severe alcohol and drug dependency which culminated in his untimely death in Paris in 1971 at age 27, due to a suspected heroin overdose. However, the events surrounding his death continue to be the subject of controversy, as no autopsy was performed on his body after death, and the exact cause of his death is disputed by many to this day.
Morrison was well-known for often improvising spoken word poetry passages while the band played live. Due to his wild personality and performances, he is regarded by some people as one of the most iconic, charismatic and pioneering frontmen in rock music history. Morrison was ranked number 47 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", and number 22 on Classic Rock Magazine's "50 Greatest Singers In Rock".
John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English vocalist, whose musical career has spanned over 40 years. Osbourne rose to prominence as lead singer of the pioneering English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, whose radically different, intentionally dark, harder sound helped spawn the heavy metal genre.
In his subsequent solo career Osbourne achieved a multi-platinum status in addition to the one he had earned with Black Sabbath. These things are what led Osbourne to become known as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal".It was during his Sabbath days that, due to their dark style of music, Osbourne became known as the "Prince of Darkness".Osbourne has over 15 tattoos, the most famous of which are the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand. This was his first tattoo, created by himself as a teenager with a sewing needle and pencil lead.In the early 2000s, Osbourne's career expanded to a new medium when he became a star in his own reality show, The Osbournes, alongside wife/manager Sharon and two of their three children, Kelly and Jack. A documentary about his life and career, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, premiered in April 2011 at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be released on DVD in November 2011. As of December 2010, Osbourne has sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as a solo artist and a member of Black Sabbath.
James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. He is widely considered to be the greatest guitarist in musical history, and one of the most influential musicians of his era across a range of genres. After initial success in Europe with his group The Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in the United States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. He often favored raw overdriven amplifiers with high gain and treble and helped develop the previously undesirable technique of guitar amplifier feedback.Hendrix, as well as his friend Eric Clapton, popularized use of the wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock which he often used to deliver an exaggerated sense of pitch in his solos, particularly with high bends, complex guitar playing, and use of legato. As a record producer, Hendrix also broke new ground in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas. He was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic phasing effects for rock recording.
Hendrix was influenced by blues artists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King and Elmore James, rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield and Steve Cropper, and the jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. Hendrix (who was then known as 'Maurice James') began dressing and wearing a moustache like Little Richard when he performed and recorded in his band from March 1, 1964 through to the spring of 1965. In 1966, Hendrix stated, "I want to do with my guitar what Little Richard does with his voice".
Hendrix won many of the most prestigious rock music awards in his lifetime, and has been posthumously awarded many more, including being inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. An English Heritage blue plaque was erected in his name on his former residence at Brook Street, London, in September 1997. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6627 Hollywood Blvd.) was dedicated in 1994. In 2006, his debut US album, Are You Experienced, was inducted into the United States National Recording Registry, and Rolling Stone named Hendrix the top guitarist on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time in 2003.
Hendrix synthesized many styles in creating his musical voice and his guitar style was unique, later to be abundantly imitated by others. Despite his hectic touring schedule and notorious perfectionism, he was a prolific recording artist and left behind more than 300 unreleased recordings.
His career and death grouped him with Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones as one of the 27 Club, a group including iconic 1960s rock stars who suffered drug-related deaths at the age of 27 within a two year period, leaving legacies in death that have eclipsed the popularity and influence they experienced during their lifetimes. Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse were later added to this list, also dying at the age of 27.
Musically, Hendrix did much to further the development of the electric guitar's repertoire, establishing it as a unique sonic source, rather than merely an amplified version of the acoustic guitar. Likewise, his feedback, wah-wah and fuzz-laden soloing moved guitar distortion well beyond mere novelty, incorporating other effects pedals and units specifically designed for him by his sound technician Roger Mayer (such as the Octavia and Uni-Vibe) with dramatic results.
Hendrix affected popular music with similar profundity; along with earlier bands such as The Who and Cream, he established a sonically heavy yet technically proficient bent to rock music as a whole, significantly furthering the development of hard rock and paving the way for heavy metal. He took blues to another level. His music has also had a great influence on funk and the development of funk rock especially through the guitarists Ernie Isley of The Isley Brothers and Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic, Prince, John Frusciante former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jesse Johnson of The Time. His influence even extends to many hip hop artists, including Questlove, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Ice-T (who covered "Hey Joe" with his heavy metal band Body Count), El-P and Wyclef Jean. Miles Davis was also deeply impressed by Hendrix and compared his improvisational skills with those of saxophonist John Coltrane, and Davis would later want guitarists in his bands to emulate Hendrix. Hendrix was ranked number 3 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock behind Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
Hendrix's guitar style also had significant influence upon ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons, fellow Texas guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, and later on Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, among others.
Hendrix was ranked number 3 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Rock N' Roll, behind the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. He has been voted by Rolling Stone, Guitar World, and a number of other magazines and polls as the best electric guitarist of all time. Conversely and with some modesty, Hendrix when asked in a Rolling Stone interview, "How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world?", Hendrix replied, "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher."I
n 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him number 6 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
Guitar World's readers voted six of Hendrix's solos among the top "100 Greatest" of all time: "Purple Haze" (70), "The Star-Spangled Banner" (52), "Machine Gun" (32), "Little Wing" (18), "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" (11) and "All Along the Watchtower" (5).
In 1992, Hendrix was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
After much speculation, the original four members of Black Sabbath – Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward - have reunited to record their first new studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year) and to embark on a massive world tour in 2012.
The reunited Sabbath, along with Rubin, all gathered today on 11/11/11 to announce the news at a Los Angeles press conference at the legendary club, the Whisky A Go-Go, the site of the groundbreaking and influential band’s first L.A. concert exactly 41 years ago (Nov 11, 1970). The event was hosted by the revered musical and spoken word artist Henry Rollins who has said that “Any band worth their weight in napalm wishes they had written ‘War Pigs.’”
Selling over 70 million albums together, the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have signed a new record deal worldwide with Vertigo and Vertigo/ UniversalRepublic in the U.S., the band’s original label. Black Sabbath is now in the studio recording the as-yet-untitled new album for release in the fall of 2012 (exact date TBA). It will mark their ninth studio album together and their first since 1978’s “Never Say Die.”
Next summer, Black Sabbath will headline the mammoth multi-day UK Download Festival in the U.K. on June 10.
The new album will then be supported with a worldwide headline arena tour (dates TBA).
Black Sabbath also announced today the launch of www.blacksabbath.com, the first-ever official Black Sabbath website for all authorized Black Sabbath news. In addition, the band’s online presence will also be supported by social media via Facebook and Twitter - again, marking the band’s first-ever foray into the social media world.
Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album in 1970. "Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal,” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “The success of their first two albums – Black Sabbath and Paranoid - marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term ‘heavy metal’ enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also noted, “…they remain one of the most misunderstood bands in rock history,” adding: “The band’s musicality was generally overlooked, but they possessed an inventiveness and fluency that, in hindsight, makes them seem as much of a progressive-rock band as a heavy-metal one.”
In 1998, Black Sabbath released “Reunion” from their 1997 concerts in Birmingham, England, a two-CD live set that featured two new studio songs. The band has also sporadically reunited for shows in 1999, 2002 and 2004; in 2005, the four performed concerts together when they toured Europe and then headlined the 10th anniversary of Osbourne’s namesake festival OZZfest. Also in 2005, they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame by Brian May of Queen. This was followed by their induction in 2006 into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on them by Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
The fourth album by the EnglishrockbandLed Zeppelinwas released on 8 November 1971. No title is printed on the album, so it is generally referred to asLed Zeppelin IV, following the naming standard used by the band's first three studio albums. The album has alternatively been referred to asFour Symbols,The Fourth Album(those two titles each having been used in theAtlanticcatalogue),Untitled,The Runes,The Hermit, andZoSo, the latter of which is derived from the symbol used byJimmy Pagefor the album sleeve.ZoSohas subsequently been used asmonikerfor Jimmy Page.
Upon its release, Led Zeppelin IV was a commercial and critical success. The album is one of thebest-selling albums worldwideat 32 million units. It has shipped over 23 million units in the United States alone, making it thethird-best-selling album ever in the US.[2]In 2003, the album was ranked 66th onRolling Stonemagazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
